What it does not affect

Commissions do not influence our specifications, our rankings, or our verdicts:

• Specifications come from each manufacturer's official listing and are the same whether or not a retailer runs an affiliate program.
• Rankings are generated by a fixed, published rule from that spec data — we can't move a product up because it pays more.
• We frequently recommend the cheaper of two products, or tell readers not to buy a unit at all when the numbers don't support it.

If a product we consider the best choice has no affiliate program, we still rank it first. Our incentive is to send you to the right power station, because a reader who buys the wrong one doesn't come back.
